    The Evil Dead (1982)

               Starring Bruce Campbell as Ash
               Directed by Sam Raimi

The Story: A group of young college students venture into the woods where they have rented a cabin. They find an old tape recorder and an ugly book. Night falls, and they play the tape not knowing that the woods holds deadly secrets and demonic forces that proceedes to possess them one by one. The axe is brought out in one of the most memorable scenes ever filmed and lots of karyo syrup is used.

Is It Good? "Evil Dead" is one of the most memorable and unforgetabble films ever made. It invented the splatter film, and the scene where the girl is raped by trees is unnerving the first few times you watch this movie.
there are loads of classic gore scenes; from the pencil stabbing to the axing. The gross claymation at the end is cool too because it looks like puke. There is puke at various moments of the film, and it looks like milk.
Truly a milestone of horror, and spawned 2 sequels - Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness.

Evil Dead 2 - Dead by Dawn (1987)
      Starring Bruce Campbell as Ash
       Directed by Sam Raimi

The Story: In The Evil Dead, dark forces possessed a group of college students. In Evil Dead 2, the soul survivor, Ashley (Bruce Campbell) is back in the same cabin where the demonic massacre occurred. This time around, his hand gets possessed and he must chop it off at the wrist. He himself becomes possessed and gets his chainsaw hand that he is known for.
There is less gore however but this is the movie that made Bruce Campbell a hero.

Is It Good? I loved the original, and found that this sequel is still all deliverance. The style is all there as well as an original storyline. The only downfall is that they used a different opening than the original, something to do with copyrights. The best part of the movie is when Ash's hand gets possesed and he has a fight with it and must cut it off.

  Worthy sequel.

An American Werewolf In London (1981)

   Starring David Naughton as David
     Griffin Dunne as Jack
    Jenny Agutter as Alex
   John Woodvine as Dr. Hirsch

   Directed by John Landis

The Story: Two young men are backpacking through England when they stop at a pub called THE SLAUGHTERED LAMB. Inside they find no food or drink but hostile locals that boot them out when asked about a five - pointed star hanging on the wall. When one is killed by a wild beast, the other is taken to a nearby hospital where he awakens 3 weeks later only to be haunted by visions of his dead friend but transforms into a monster on the next full moon, going on the rampage and slaughtering six people. Can he be stopped?

Is It Good? "American Werewolf in London" is my pick for best werewolf film of all time. It overpassed "The Howling," which was released around the same time and features a cameo by Frank Oz (Yoda, Kermit the Frog.) It also boasts some of the most impressive make - up effects this side of the grave by make - up artist Rick Baker (Star Wars, Men In Black.) The gore is decent but it cuts away too quickly.

  A classic.

        Dawn Of The Dead (1978)

     Starring Ken Foree as Peter
    Gaylen Ross as Fran
   Scott Reiniger as Roger

  Directed by George Romero

The Story: After a swat team raids an apartment building swarming with zombies, officers Peter and Roger (Foree and Reiniger) meet in the basement. They meet up with a friend who flies them to a shopping mall where the dead walk. If they must survive, they must learn to fight off the undead plus a gang of bikers along with the consummerism that eats away at their very souls.

Is it Good? What more can be said that isn't said already? DOFD is by far the godfather of zombie films, as well as Romero's masterpiece. It was the first film to feature landmark gore, and it is the movie that people think of when you mention ZOMBIE.
  'Nuff said.
